VH-UQN de Havilland D.H.60G Gipsy Moth
(c/n 1 McC)
This is a totally
fake photograph, but is included for completeness sake.
VH-UQN was a
Gypsy Moth built by J.H. McConnell of Sydney whether from basket case
parts or from a
kit I am not sure. In the event, I have not been
able to glean an image of it as -UQN.
Anyway,
it was registered in May 1932 to Reginald Annabel a
Rockdale, NSW dairyman
who
christened it "Spirit of Fun Junior" Annabel was a bit of
a dare-devil pilot who flew
around
Australia in another Moth ("Miss
Australia") and even flew under the Harbour
Bridge. Sadly, he was killed at Mascot Aerodrome on 8 July 1934
when -UQN stalled
in a loop about 300 ft above the ground, and exploded into flames.
Remember, there are Old Pilots and there are Bold Pilots, but there are
very few Old AND
Bold Pilots.
