VH-UPQ de Havilland D.H.80A Puss Moth
(c/n 2085)
Photographs of this Puss Moth have proven
difficult to find.. My chief VH-U sleuth, Graeme Parsons
in Sydney has,
however, unearthed a pair of them. The above, from the State
Library of Queensland
collection was taken circa 1935, whilst the rare shot below showing it
in Qantas'
hangar at Archerfield,
circa 1931, is from the State Library of New
South Wales collection. -UPQ was delivered new to
Qantas on
Christmas Eve, 1930. It was sold
two years later to T.H. McDonald of Cairns, and later
transferred to
North Queensland Airways Pty Ltd. It was
written off when it crashed into the sea
12 miles
north of Cairns on 19 January 1937.
