VH-UPN de Havilland D.H.80A Puss Moth
(c/n 2023)
Nice shot of a Puss Moth from the
Charles Ohlson collection, courtesy of the Civil Aviation
Historical Society archives. This aircraft was first
registered to de Havilland Aircraft Pty Ltd
in
November, 1930. It went to C.A. Butler in 1933 and
then to R. Godsall of Sydney in
1935 and
was named 'Skylark'. It competed in the 1936 Adelaide Centenary
Air Race from
Brisbane to Adelaide and the name on the nose can just be discerned in
the newpaper photo
of a line up of aircraft in the race under my entry for the British
Kleem Eagle VH-UTG. In
1940
-UPR was sold to a private owner in Darwin and was destroyed in a
hangar
during a
Japanese attack on Darwin Airport on 19 May 1942.
