VH-UPJ de Havilland D.H.80A Puss
Moth
(c/n 2053)
This Puss
Moth was first registered to Matthews Aviation of Essendon in
October 1930. It
was
used (chartered?) by Lasseter's Central Australian Gold Exploration
expedition as seen
in the image
below from the State Library of New South Wales collection.
It later went to
T.P. Manifold
of Camperdown
who was the owner when the above shot, from the Kevin
OReilly
collection was taken at Geelong, pre-war. It later went to Miss
J.G.
de Havilland
(surely a
relative of Geoffrey de H's - and is
that the
lady on the right in the image below?) of
posh Point
Piper, NSW. Repatriated
back to the UK in 1934, it became
G-ACSB. It didn't
stay in the UK
for long, being sold
in Holland in March 1935 as PH-AMN. It was probably
destroyed
when the Nazis overran
the Netherlands in May 1940.
