VH-UOZ de
Havilland D.H.60M Moth
(c/n 1401)
This Moth, first registered in September 1930, had a couple of
accidents while still owned by
de
Havillands before it was sold, in October 1933 to the Kingsford Smith
Flying School at
Mascot.. The nice photo above is from the Frank Walters
collection. The photo below is
by
R.E. Hourigan, circa 1935. In the photo at the foot of the
page,
from the E.A. Crome
collection, (courtesy of the National
Library of Australia) it is wearing a 'reversed' livery,
although the
date is unknown. The couple are a young Nancy Bird and Jack
Kingsford
Smith. Whilst
still with the Flying School it .crashed into the sea
off Cronulla, NSW on
15 January 1938,
although was
obviously salvaged since it was impressed into RAAF service
in
1940 as
A7-118. It later became
Instructional Airframe # 17.
