VH-UOT de Havilland D.H.60M
Moth
(c/n 1539)
'Meteor Airways - Lismore' reads the
legend on the nose of this Moth. It was registered, at the
time to
the Vitue brothers of Lismore. (Keith V. later became chief pilot
for Airlines of Australia).
In the above shot, from the John Hopton collection, taken circa 1932,
the Moth was providing joy
rides on the beach. It was sold to A.H. Garrow of Dalby,
Quensland in March of 1935 and was
struck
off the register following a crash at at Dalby on 24 May
1935. The image below from
the Geoff Goodall collection shows it shortly after that
accident. Just what the relationship between
Mr. Garrow and
the GE Company was I have no idea. Perhaps he was the local
rep. Interesting
in
that it still carried the 'Meteor Airways' titling on the tail.
VH-UOT.was originally imported by
Qantas in
their capacity of D.H. dealers, coming
into Australia in August 1930.
