VH-UOQ de Havilland D.H.60M Moth
(c/n 1483)
This Moth was first registered to Adastra
Airways in August 1930. A photo of it in original
livery is seen
at the foot of the page. Contributor Ian Mcdonell indicates that
the titling on this
shots states "Hardy and
Follett, NSW, 1931". The Adastra logo can be seen on the
cowling.
It had several owners
until impressed into the RAAF in 1940 for its spare parts.
One of these
owners added spats
and gave it the name 'Goldfinch'.
-UOQ crashed
into Cronulla Bay in
February of 1935 but was repaired and restored to the register by
September of that year, only
to crash
again in the Blue Mountains a month later in December. (Very
irritating for the bloke
that did
the rebuild). The above image is from the Len Dobbin
collection, courtesy of the Civil
Aviation Historical Society archives,
and lower, earlier
(sans spats) from the John Oxley Library,
State Library of Queensland
collection.
* A
photo showing -UOQ when brand new in front of Adastra's hangar at
Mascot appears in
the
following entry for VH-UOR.
