VH-UNL de
Havilland D.H.60M Moth
(c/n 1418)
This impression was taken
from a Newspaper article published in the Melbourne Argus for 14
March
1930. The caption stated: 'Two men were killed when a De
Havilland Moth crashed from
a height of 1000 ft into a
paddock near Bulla Road, Essendon. The owner Capt. C.G.Matthews
of
Matthews Aviation Co viewes the wreckage......' The
Moth was, in fact, registered new to
Matthews Aviation on
19 February 1930, and the crash occurred on 13 March 1930. It was
rebuilt
and a new CofA issued
in August 1930. On 28 February 1931 it again crashed, this time
at Western
Junction Airport in
Launceston, Tasmania. It was not rebuilt and was Struck off
Register on 2 April
1931.
