VH-UMZ de Havilland D.H.60M
Moth
(c/n 1371)
This image is from the Hood Aviation
collection, State Library of New South Wales and
depicts the
metal Moth -UMZ in company with the Gipsy Moth VH-UIF
over the Sydney
suburb of
Chullora, (near Bankstown) circa 1930. Both Moths were privately
owned at
the time, -UMZ
being registered to K. Wedgewood, and -UIF to F.K. Bardsley.
VH-UMZ was sold to the
Queensland Aero Club at the end of 1930 and was destroyed
when it
crashed and burned at Archerfield on 4 September 1932.
Prior to that it had had
another 'nasty accident' as seen in the
newspaper clipping below, from the The Brisbane
Courier for 25 May 1931 whilst it had been
performing in an Aero Club pageant.
