VH-UKJ de Havilland D.H.60G Gipsy Moth
(c/n 975)
Ken Whytcross of
Barellan NSW kindly sent me the original of this print of -UKJ.
It came from his family's album,
although he is not sure how it got there! His father
did become involved with aviation later
on, as the owner of Cessna 182A Skylane
VH-SNN.
Anyway. -UKJ was first registered on 4 April 1929 to Matthews Aviation
Pty
Ltd and spent most (although not
all) of its early years at Essendon. In 1938 it
went to Winton,
Queensland
and just before WW II was owned by Mathesons
Aviation and Training
School at Archerfield. In January 1940 it was
impressed
into the RAAF as A7-80. It became INST Moth 7 and was struck off
charge and
scrapped in May 1946. .
