VH-UKF de
Havilland D.H.60G Gipsy Moth
(c/n
974)
VH-UKF is interesting since it was the
first aircraft to be registered "VH-U.." as distinct from
"G-AU.." . It was built in 1929
and registered in Australia on 4 April of that year. Engine was
a 90 hp de Havilland
Gipsy, as opposed to the 80 hp Cirrus Mk II engines fitted to prior
Moths.
VH-UKF was brokered through
the Victorian Moth dealer Matthews Aviation of Essendon who
.sold it to Mr. R.L. Manuel of Kerang, Victoria. Ten years later
it was transferred to Victorian
and Interstae
Airways at Essendon. In July 1940 it was impressed into the RAAF
as A7-107.
Fate unknown, but probably RTP'd. The shot above,
which looks like a CofA photograph,
comes from The A.J.Jackson Collection at Brooklands Museum. (for their
great range of historic
prints go to http://www.ajjcollection.co.uk).
