VH-UJZ Avro 594 Avian Mk.
IV
(c/n R3/CN/202)
Above is a enlargement of a
very nice original photo (see below) by Frank Walters (via Geoff
Goodall) at Mascot in 1930.
In the full image below the aircraft on the left is Adastra Airways'
D.H. 60M Moth
VH-UOQ. This Avian was
registered to E.W. Percival on 24 January 1929.
It was in use by
the Western Aero Club at
Bathurst, NSW by the end of 1929. It was sold to
J.A.S.Kerr of
Sydney in June 1930. On 21 February
1932 it crashed after hitting power lines
at
Brooklyn, Victoria, and its CofR was allowed to lapse
during the following month. Graeme
Parsons discovered the newspaper image and
cutting (bottom of page) from the Melbourne Argus
of 22 February
1932 which stated:
"Flt.Lt C.T.P.Ulm and J.A.Kerr were seriously injured when their 'plane
hit transmission wires
on the Geelong Rd near Footscray yesterday".
