VH-UJN de Havilland D.H.60G Gipsy Moth
(c/n 987)
This Moth was acquired by the Kingsford Smith Flying School in
1938. It is seen above wearing the
checkered rudder livery of the club in the above
shot from the Geoff Goodall collection. This aircraft
had had a series of owners in the Brisbane area from its
importation in 1930 until it went to the NT in
1935. The photo below, from the
John Hopton
collection shows -UJN at an unknown location,
although probably earlier, pre-1935 (?).
At the foot of the page is an image from the John
Oxley
Library, State Library of
Queensland collection showing the
aircraft at Archerfield, circa 1929 as
G-AUJN. The aircraft was named "Miss
Graham-Paige", since it was registered at the time
to Mr.
J.H.F. Moxon whose Moxon Motors were distributors
for Graham cars, successors to the luxurious
Graham-Paige line. (Moxon Motors were also a
de Havlland agency, in conjunction with Qantas).
.Following its stint with KSFS it was
impressed
into RAAF service in 1940
becoming A7-116 and
was used as Instructional Airframe
No 12 for ground school personnel It
was reduced to produce
during the
war.
