VH-UIQ de Havilland D.H.60G Gipsy Moth
(c/n 893)
Another of the RQAC's Gipsy Moths, outside their hangar at
Archerfield in the late 1930s. Photo
via the John Oxley
Library, State Library of Queensland. This aircraft was, at
one time, in the fleet
of the short-lived
Queensland Air Navigation Co of Brisbane. Several owners later it
went to the
Royal Queensland Aero
Club. It had a mid-air collision on 8 August 1937 with VH-UIE,
but was
repaired and went on to
serve with the RAAF as A7-122, being the last Moth to enter military
service.
It did not survive the war
and was presumably broken up. Whether the accident below
was a result
of the mid-air
collision or not, I am not sure, but it is quite possible.
