VH-UHC Avro 594 Avian III
(c/n R3/AV/413)
Nice shot above from the Frank Walters
collection (via Geoff Goodall) of an Avian at Mascot
in
1933. Registered to the Civil Aviation Branch,
Department of Defence at the time, it was
on
loan to the Aero Club of NSW. The image immediately
below came from the album of
Barbara Butler of
Queensland. It was taken "above Mitchell, Qld" in 1939. The
aircraft was
probably on tour in the Archerfield
area. The
photograph was
taken (possibly by
Barbara's
mother)
from an accompanying D.H.60G Moth. The small
shot at the foot of the page is
from the E.A. Crome collection of the State
Library of Australia and shows the Avian as G-AUHC
in 1928 with starboard wing folded. It
was apparently engaged in the search for some lost hikers.
VH-UHC
was only withdrawn
from use as late as 1952
