VH-UGM de Havilland D.H.60X Moth
(c/n 453)
The above cropped image, from
the State Library of South Australia collection, was taken at
Parafield in 1936. The shot
below, from the John Hopton collection dates from a much earlier
time when the Moth was in the
Genairco hangar at Mascot circa 1930. It was owned at
that
time by
the Bush Church Aid Society of Sydney for whom it had been imported,
and carries
the
titling 'Church of England' on the fuselage. The dearth of photos
of this machine is odd
considering that it was not
written off until 1959 when it crashed near
Moorabbin. True, it
had been laid up
since 1947, but even so, I never managed to spot it. It
had many owners
over the years,
winding up registered to a Reservoir, Victoria owner in 1946. On
19 Novem-
ber 1959 it was acquired
by J.O. Robinson at Moorabbin and evidently was wrecked just
three days later.
