G-AUJR de Havilland D.H.66
Hercules
(c/n 347)
Here's
the fourth and last D.H.66 for West Australian Airways seen in two
images (above)
from
the State Library of South Australia collection and (below) departing
Maylands, Perth,
circa 1929. It had a short
career with WAA, being sold to Imperial Airways to replace
their
DH.66
G-EBNA which crashed at Gaza on 14 February 1930. As the Hercules
was
now out of
production by D.H., Imperial
Airways were anxious to acquire a second hand
example from
overseas. -UJR
was shipped from Perth to the Middle East and became
Imperial
Airways'
G-ABCP 'City of Jodhpur'.
It was to be the last Hercules flying for
Imperial
Airways when it
crashed into a swamp at Lake Salisbury, Uganda on
23 Nov 1935
while taking off from Entebbe on
the
scheduled Entebbe-Juba run.
