G-AUJJ
Sopwith
Dove
(c/n W/O 3004/4)
This Dove had
Certificate of Registration No 26 and was registered on 28 June 1921.
The above
image, from the CAHS archives was taken outside the Larkin Aircraft
Supply
Co
hangar at Glenhuntly. The Larkin brothers
started up after WW I as an agency for
Sopwith
aircraft. The Dove operated until 1925 when its CofR lapsed, and was
never
renewed. .
Presumably it was painted as
G-AU prior to this happening although I have
not been able to glean a
clear image of it as such. .
In
the print below, from the Kevin OReilly collection it is unclear
whether the machine is
depicted as G-EA or G-AU.
-UJJ was another 'out-of-sequence'
registration, being
issued after the allocation of "double last two" was allowed, and using
its ex UK rego
with
minimum change. The Sopwith Dove was a
2 seat civilian variant of the
Sopwith
Pup, Ten were built.
