G-AUIP de Havilland
D.H.60G Gipsy Moth
(c/n 892)
Very poor image
extracted (by Graeme Parsons) from the Sydney Morning Herald of
2
February 1929 depicting "a new gipsy moth (sic) which arrived at Mascot
aerodrome
from Melbourne
yesterday. The machine will be used for private business".
G-AUIP
was actually first
registered on 25 January 1929 to Matthews Aviation of Essendon . It
was sold
to H. Heavener and Co of Sydney. By 31 August 1930 the rego
had been
changed to
VH-UIP. In August 1931 (the month of my birth) it was sold to
Downs Air
Services of
Toowoomba, Queensland, and was written off when it crashed at Pittworth,
Qld on 8 April 1932.
