G-AUHY Avro
594 Avian Mk IIIA
(c/n R3/CN/164)
G-AUHY was originally
owned by C.A. Butler and F.H. Smith of Lithgow, NSW, and registered
to them in November 1928.
Could they be the two gentlemen doing the Irish Jig in this
image from
State
Library of Victoria collection taken at Deniliquin, NSW on 18 April
1929?. In 1932 -UHY
was sold to Larkin Aircraft
Supply Company of Coode island, Victoria (possibly why the library
has
a shot of it?) who on-sold it to Australian Aerial Services Ltd of
Melbourne. In September 1932
this company installed a 115
hp Cirrus Hermes Mk I engine, in lieu of the original 80 hp Cirrus Mk
II.
The Avian then had many different owners mainly in NSW and Queensland
(including Butler Air
Transport) before being
struck off the register in April 1946. It
was laid up during WW II and
never impressed into RAAF
service..
