G-AUHN de Havilland D.H.60G Gipsy Moth
(c/n 875)
The
above photograph came from the Melbourne Argus of 31 July
1929. G-AUHN had been
registered the
previous December to the Civil Aviation Branch, Dept. of Defence and
loaned to
the Australian Aero
Club (NSW) Section based at Mascot. This crash occurred at
Wentworth
Falls in the Blue Mountains of NSW on 28 July. It apparently had
been flying with Avro Avian
G-AUHK when
thick fog forced both aircraft down. Incredibly both machines
were repaired,
but -UHN was to
crash again a year later on 8
August 1930. That latest accident, at Brighton-
le-Sands, NSW
rendered the
coup de grace and -UHN was struck off the register on 20 Nov
1931.
