G-AUDV Royal
Aircraft Factory
B.E.2e
c/n 61)
This 'better than nothing' image was
culled/extracted by Graeme Parsons from the 'Queenslander
Illustrated
Weekly' dated 5 September 1929. The B.E.2e had taken part
in the 3rd Aerial Derby
at Brisbane's Eagle Farm Airport on 31
August 1929. The ex-military machine was first registered
to Darcy Donkin
of Springsure, Qld on 16 November 1922. In 1926 it had the
original 90 hp
RAF Type
1A engine replaced by a 80 hp Renault. It was damaged at
Eagle Farm in December
1929 resulting in its CofA lapsing and
not being renewed until October 1930 when it was sold to
M. B. Valance t/a Fleming Aerial
Services of Sydney. It evidently was re-registered
VH-UDV
at the end
of 1930 (although if it was ever painted that way is subject to
conjecture), since it was
damaged beyond
repair in a wind storm on 6 February 1931.
