G-AUDB Boulton
& Paul
P.9
(c/n unknown)
Four Boulton & Paul P.9s were sent to Australia, including the
prototype, which went to a Mr.
A.L. Long for use on his sheep station. Production
aircraft differed in that they had a compart-
ment behind the
cockpit to carry two specially built suitcases, seen clearly here in
this rare shot
from the Bill Waterton collection (via
the CAHS). G-AUDB was owned by C.C. Matheson
and L. Bacon, trading as Victorian Flying Services. Its
Certificate of Registration was never
officially taken up and, in the event, the aircraft crashed at
Briagolong, Victoria on June 11, 1921
and was destroyed in the resultant fire. The actual painting of
the G-AU regos came later around
1922. .
