VH-TPT Piper PA-28-140
Cherokee
(c/n 28-22512)
VH-TPT was delivered to the Townsville Aero Club in March 1967.
David Carter’s picture
shows it at Bankstown in 1969, at
Ansett General Aviation, possibly after being traded in on a
later
model. Certainly the club didn’t own it on
March 31, 1975, when it crashed near Walcha,
NSW. At the time it was owned by Archerfield
Aerial Services and was being flown from
Cessnock to Archerfield via Armidale. Poor weather
forced the pilot down on an ag strip.
However,
fearful he would overrun it, the pilot executed a go-around that ended
when the air-
craft hit trees. He escaped
with serious injuries but both his passengers died in the ensuing fire.
