VH-TJS Douglas DC-9-31
(c/n 47550)
The above shot in original T-tail
markings is from the Macarthur Job collection, probably taken
at Tullamarine Airport, Melbourne. VH-TJS was
delivered in April 1971, and initially named
'Peter Warburton'. Later
changed to 'Douglas Mawson'.
Greg Banfield caught it on short
finals
into Mascot in January of 1986 (below) wearing the then TAA livery.
It later carried
Australian
Airlines titling when TAA changed its name. In September 1989 it
was sold to ABX
Air Inc in the US as N944AX (dba Airborne Express) and converted to a
freighter. Gary C.
Orlando took a
photo of it as such at Moline Quad City International Airport in
February 2003
(foot of page). In 2010 it went to DHL Express although appears
(2012) to be no longer current.
