VH-SGC de Havilland D.H.82A Tiger
Moth (c/n
82503)
This was an ex RAF Tiger (N9449) civilianized in 1954 as G-ANPJ, that
registration being not
taken up, and the
aircraft became G-ANUL instead. Early in 1957 it was
exported to Australia
for the Royal Aero Club of New South
Wales as VH-RSF. By the time that Neville Parnell took
the above shot in June of 1962
(courtesy of the Brian Baker collection) the RACNSW had disposed
of it, and
it assumed the identity of VH-SGC. Similarly, when John Hopton
took his photo of it at
Narromine on New Year's Day in
1964 (immediately below, #2) it was still in its overall silver scheme.
However, in photo # 3 from
the Ross Gorman collection taken at Casey Field,
Berwick in the late
1970s, it had shed its canopy, and
sprouted
roundels. In the1980s -SGC was acquired
by the
Royal Australian Air Force Museum at
Point Cook,
Victoria, although I
believe it was written off in
a prang at Point Cook sometime
later. Interestingly, it was the
subject of an Australia Post post card
(bottom of page, # 4), which Ross
also provides. No photographer is given credit on the
card for
this nice shot!
