VH-RVK (4) Piper
PA-28-140
Cherokee
(c/n 28-21965)
VH-RVK was delivered to the Royal Victorian Aero Club in October 1966
and was seen in
the
club’s colours by David Carter at Moorabbin in December
1969. On July 1, 1973 it
suffered a serious accident at Moorabbin which resulted it in being off
the register for more
than
three years. It had another minor prang in December
1988 when an attempt to hand-
start it saw the Cherokee end up in a ditch at Albury. In
November 2016 –RVK was registered
to Rod Shearer, of Huntly, Victoria. Shearer was
the recipient of a bravery award in 2015
after he and
two other pilots dragged two people from the burning wreckage of a
Cessna that
had
crashed on a private strip at Bagshot, near Huntly, in October 2012.
Sadly, a third person
in the plane could not be saved.
