VH-RVK (3) DHC-1 Chipmunk T..10
(c/n C1/0098)
This Chipmunk was not acquired by
the Royal Victorian Aero Club until 1960 when most
of the
other Chippies had been traded in. . It was the former VH-BSJ. (ex WB658), and
was, in fact, the machine in which my
life-long mate Richard J. Maclean and his partner flew
to second place in the
1964 R.M. Ansett Air Race from Brisbane to Adelaide. It is seen here
at
Parafield, Adelaide, at the end of the Race.
The color shot below was
taken at Morwell,
circa 1963, and is from Geoff Goodall (courtesy of
the John Willis
collection).
On 8 September 1964
-RVK
was unfortunately written
off in a fiery crash at
Bangholme
(near its base at Moorabbin).
