VH-RAQ (2) Piper PA-25-235 Pawnee
B
(c/n 25-3806)
I assume this Pawnee
was originally a Robbys machine. When Mike Madden took the above
shot at
Toowoomba in January 1973 it was based there for Rural Aviation.
By that time the
poor old thing had been
considerably patched up. On 12 August 1986, -RAQ hit the
top of
a ridge line at Brady Creek, SA. It then cartwheeled down the
slope until crashing into a tree.
The aircraft was a complete write off and the pilot was
killed. Thermal turbulence in the lee
of
the ridge line was suspected as the reason for the loss of control.
