VH-RAL de Havilland D.H.83 Fox Moth
(c/n 4039)
These two Brian Baker shots were both taken on
the same day (16 November 1962) at Bankstown.
This Fox Moth had had an interesting background before being acquired
by Robby's Aircraft Repair
Co Ltd of Adelaide in
1950. It was built in 1933 and went to Germany as
D-3408. Repatriated to
its homeland as G-ACID, it was sold on
in Australia in January 1935 becoming VH-UTF
for Mac-
Robertson Miller Aviation
Co in Perth. It spent time in the late 1930s flying for the
Flying Doctor
Service out of Wyndham, West
Australia. After the war it was based in Darwin and had a
couple
of owners before Robby's bought
it in 1950. In 1953 it was re-registered into their VH-R
series.
I suspect that Brian's shot was taken after it
had returned to de Havilland Australia for an overhaul,
after Robby's pensioned it
off. It later became VH-UAL,
and was withdrawn from service at an
unknown (at least by me)
date.
