VH-PXY Piper PA-32-300 Cherokee
Six
(c/n 32-40359)
VH-PXY was registered to Piper agent Ansett General Aviation in
November 1968.
David Carter photographed it at Bankstown in 1970 and the 1976 register
showed it
owned by Silver City Air Taxis at Broken Hill.
It was based at Bankstown when it
was lost
in a crash on August 17, 1986. The fully loaded
aircraft suffered an engine
failure shortly after take-off.
The pilot elected to turn back towards the airport and
rapidly lost height.
–PXY crashed into the roof of a factory at Chipping Norton
killing five of the six people on board.
Air crash investigators observed that had the
pilot crash-landed straight ahead
the occupants would have probably survived.
