VH-PMQ Mooney M.20E Super 21
(c/n 884)
Greg Banfield's shot (above) of
this Super 21 was taken at Bankstown in May 1984. In the new
millennium it discarded its standard Mooney finish
for the plain red monstrosity seen in the image
below,
taken at
Toowooomba in May 2009 by Ian McDonnell. I suppose the
only thing worse
would have been
if it were in Dayglo Red! Anyway, first registered
in 1965 (ex N6043Q), as
VH-ERA it was reregistered -PMQ when
sold to the Hastings District Flying Club Hastings
District
Flying Club at Port MacQuarie NSW (-PMQ being the airfield coding for
that base).
It
is currently
registered to Dingo Roadhouse Pty Ltd, an eatery of some fame 160 km
west of
Rockhampton. Owner Darren Bauman is an entrepreneur with
style, and commutes to the
Roadhouse in the small
'Red Baron' Mooney, making the Monday morning journey much easier
to handle. The town of
Dingo, incidentally, features a bronze
statue of its namesake animal (as a
northern rival to the Dog on the
Tucker Box at Gundagai, perhaps?)
