VH-MMC
Avro 652A Anson
1
(c/n unknown)
Two rare photographs from the Geoff Goodall collection
showing an Anson (above) in
the original
MacRobertson Miller
Aviation markings at
Perth in the late 1940s, and (below) at Victoria River
Downs Station in May
of 1952 by which time the rego had been moved to the fin, as was normal
for that
era. The Ansons were the first aircraft
operated by MMA and incredibly
flew a route from
Perth to Darwin with
them. The weekly flight
left Perth at 06.00 hrs on
Tuesday and overnighted at
Broome, having called at
Geraldton, Carnarvon and Port
Hedland. The next day it went on to
Darwin, arriving at
12.40 hrs having made stops at Derby and Wyndham. A
bi-monthly service
was
also flown to remote Victoria
River Downs station where the lower shot was taken. This Anson
was the former RAF/RAAF
R3548 and was one of a fleet of six. VH-MMC was operated
from
July 1947 until
September 1956 when it was sold to Patair in New Guinea.
