VH-KEA Auster J/1
Autocrat
(c/n 2114)
Built as
a regular Autocrat in 1947, this aircraft was exported from its Rearsby
(Leicestershire) birth
place to
Uganda as VP-UAJ. It was sold to Noon and Pearce in Nairobi in
1948 becoming VP-KDZ.
Sometime
after its importation into Australia in 1961 it was re-engined with a
Lycoming as seen in the
shot
above by Bob Neate (via the Geoff Goodall collection) circa 1965.
VH-KEA was withdrawn
from the register in December 1966 following its destruction by fire on
the ground at Lakes Entrance,
Victoria on 19 November of that year. Arson was
suspected.
