VH-IDB DHC-2
Beaver 1
(c/n 883)
This Beaver was originally delivered to the French
company CLCT, a division of Aigle Azur Inter-
national, in Laos in
1956 as F-LAAJ. It was re-registered XW-TAW in 1960 and then as
F-OBXS.
Super Spread of Moorabbin, Melbourne, purchased it in 1963 whereupon it
became VH-IDB. I am
not sure why
DCA decided to register a whole batch of Beavers in the VH-IDx series
at that time.
The series was
certainly out of the normal sequence. Anyway, -IDB remained
at Moorabbin until
about 1995
(registered to Leafair Pty Ltd, dba Super Spread by then) after which
it was exported
back to
Canada. Beaver expert Neil Aird indicates it has been stored at
Vernon, BC since at least
1999. The
aircraft had at least five different liveries whilst at Moorabbin over
the years. Geoff
Goodall's shot above,
shows it at Hamilton, Victoria in February 1967, in the original Super
Spread
livery. Barry
Maclean's color image (below), taken at Bendigo some years later, shows
it in revised
Super Spread scheme.
