This Illawarra Flying
School of Bankstown
Aztec blew into Adelaide Airport one day in March
1967
wearing a minuscule rego (see enlargement below), and Geoff Goodall was
there to take
this
photo. It was the former N5851Y and was added the register in
September 1965 to Air
Training Ltd of Bankstown. Air Training Ltd was the
Fawcett Aviation subsidiary which oper-
ated as Illawarra Flying School. Illawarra sold
-IAB in 1970 and it later flew with Island Air-
ways out
of Hervey Bay Queensland. It then went to the North Queensland
Aero Club at Cairns.
It ditched in
the Gulf of Carpentaria on 22 April 1973 due to engine trouble while on
fish spotting
operations 40 miles from Karumba Qld. The pilot and
six passengers were not injured and were
found
floating in an inflatable dinghy from the aircraft.
