VH-GMC
de Havilland D.H.82A Tiger
Moth
(c/n DHA798)
This is the last of the original three of
McKenzie's Tigers named, appropriately, 'Charity', VH-GMC
was another of the
machines destined
for the RATG (Rhodesian Air training Group) but went, instead,
to the RAAF as
A17-648. My shot was taken at Moorabbin in 1958.
Geoff Goodall saw it at
Magalore, Victoria in January of 1968 (below), and, as he mused when he
sent me the image, "poor
Gertie would 'turn in
her grave' to see her beloved and immaculate 'Charity' out to pasture
like that"!
There is a VH-GMC Tiger
Moth on the current register, but CASA gives its c/n as 1057, which
would make it the
former VH-GMA. It is probably made up of bits and pieces from
both machines.
