VH-FDA (2)
DHA-3 Drover 3A
(c/n 5019)
The first VH-FDA was the Dragon
ex VH-ASO. It was replaced with this Drover in 1956, which
was actually the last Drover
built. Like several others of its breed it had its original Gipsy
Major
engines swapped out for Lycoming O-360-A1As in 1960 or
thereabouts. It was sold off in 1967
when
replaced by the sleek Beagle B.206 and this second -FDA become
VH-UNK. Shortly after-
wards it
became VH-UMA, then went to New
Zealand as ZK-DDD finally
returning to Australia
as VH-FBC. It is now part of the Powerhouse
Museum in Sydney. It was in full operation when the
image above,
from the Geoff Goodall collection, was taken by Rod Adam at Parafield
Airport, in
May of 1963.
