VH-EWB (2)
Douglas DC-3CS1C3G
(c/n 11970)
Two outstanding images of one of EWA's
five DC-3s. Both are by Geoff Goodall and illustrate it
(above) at Adelaide in
April 1964 whilst on a charter and (below) in revised livery at Parkes,
NSW
in July 1967 on a regularly
scheduled passenger service. VH-EWB was built as a C-47A-1-DK in
1943 and delivered to
the USAAF as 42-92196. It was seconded almost immediately to the
RAAF
becoming A65-21 with
call sign VHCTC. It was used mainly in the Borneo and New Guinea
theaters.
It was civilianized in 1957 for
East-West Airlines of Tamworth, NSW. It was leased to MMA in
1965/66 and sold by
EWA in 1967 becoming VH-PWM.
