VH-ECC Lockheed L-188C
Electra
(c/n 2007)
The above shot was taken by
Michael Croker at Mascot in July 1962 and is seen here courtesy
of the
Daryl Mackenzie collection. The image
immediately below is by Peter Gates also at
Mascot in December 1963. VH-ECC was accepted by Qantas at
Burbank on 23 November
1959 and arrived in
Sydney 5 days later and was named 'Pacific
Endeavour'. Following wing
and engine mount
modifications in 1961 it went on to serve with Qantas until April 1965,
when
it was sold to
Air New Zealand as ZK-CLX (as a replacement for the crashed ZK-TEC).
Following
a stint with Reeve Aleutian Airways as N1968R from 1968 until 2001 (see
photo
below, from
the Peter Gates collection taken in July 1990) it
wound up as a fire
fighting aircraft
in Canada
and is still on the strength of Air Spray
(1967) Ltd as Tanker # 84 registered
C-GHZI.
The shot
at the foot of the page, also from the Peter Gates collection, shows it
in April 2007 as
C-GHZI.
