VH-EBQ (2) Boeing
505-338C
(c/n 18953)
Here's VH-EBQ on a foggy day in
London Town....well, Heathrow, anyway. Photo by (a very
young) Greg Banfield in August
1972. Rego enlarged below. This 707, named 'City of
Ballarat'
was delivered to Qantas in September 1965 and flew its final revenue
service for the airline on
28 January 1974 (to Christchurch, New Zealand). It then
went to Malaysia Airline System as
9M-ASQ. A year later (June
1975) it was re-registered 9M-MCQ for some reason. From
1980 to 1985 it flew with Somali Airlines as 6O-SBM before being
acquired by Omega Air and
registered in the US as
N342A. It was then sold to the Boeing Military Airplane Co
for spares
for KC-135s. It spent its final days parked at
Davis Monthan AFB in Arizona until around 1999
when it was broken up.
