VH-EBF (3)
Boeing
707-138
(c/n 17701)
As indicated in the narrative for the Lockheed Electra, my own Australian aircraft
collection does
not really extend into the Boeing 707 era. The above shot, taken
at London's Heathrow by Jennifer
Gradidge, shows a Qantas 707 in
1959, advertising the fortieth anniversary the airline. I acquired
it from Jennifer ostensibly to
illustrate a book I was working on. Greg
Banfield's photo (below)
illustrates -EBF in
the then standard V-Jet livery of the day, having been taken at
Mascot in July
1964. VH-EBF was sold in 1968 to US
supplemental carrier Standard Airways and registered
N792SA.
Greg took shot another shot of it (# 3) at Mascot on 27 February of
that year as it was
being prepared for its new
owner. It then had a very convoluted career being
leased to a German
air charter company
(Air Commerz) as D-ADAQ, and then saw service
in Turkey
as TC-JBP.
Broker F.B. Ayer
leased it to Israeli Aircraft Industries who sub-leased it to El Al (as
N792FA).
After a further lease to
Bouraq in Indonesia it was eventually scrapped
at the Pinal Airpark at Marana,
Arizona.
At the foot of the page is a Peter Gates shot of it in its final livery
and resting place taken
on 26 March 1990.
