VH-DAL (1) de Havilland D.H.82A Tiger
Moth
(c/n 82248)
Dogget Aviation & Engineering
Co were an agricultural aviation concern based at Maylands,
Perth using a fleet of Tigers
decked out with yellow fuselages, red cowlings, silver wings and
(initially, at least) the name of their chemical supplier "Elders", on
the fuselage decking. They
also repeated the last letter of
the rego on the cowling, although in the upper shot this one had
yet to be so adorned. The
fabric covering of the rear fuselage was removed to simplify maint-
enance. VH-DAL was the
former VH-BJV, civilianized from RAAF Cunderdin disposals in
1947 and had
resided at several pastoral stations in the Carnarvon district before
being acquired
by
Doggett in 1957 and converted into an agricultural aircraft. The
two photographs in this entry,
are both
from the Geoff Goodall collection and depict -DAL (above) at Maylands
in 1959 and
(below), at Jandakot in 1964
during the last year of its operation by Dogget. Unfortunately, a
month after this
latter shot was taken it was blown over by a wind gust while working on
a farm
near Botherling, WA and written off. In 1972 the wreck was
found in a shed in the Perth suburb
of Dianella, undergoing a slow
rebuild.
