VH-CXV de Havilland D.H.82A Tiger
Moth (c/n
83250)
This Tiger is still active (as
of April 2011) and interestingly CASA quotes its c/n as T5531 which
was, of course, its old
RAF/RAAF serial. It was originally civilianized in June
1946 as VH-ATD.
In April 1955 it was
acquired by the Royal Newcastle Aero Club and became
VH-RNL. Sold
by the club in September
1961 it was issued, for then, the period sequence rego VH-CXV.
This
Tiger does not carry the
normal
training bright yellow in its
warbird guise, but rather carries the dark
green/brown camouflage
finish on the fuselage used in the early days of WW II. .
Greg Banfield's
photo above was taken
at Maitland in April 1977, as was his B&W shot below.
It
is currently
registered
to Leonie Mazumdara of Orange, NSW. Ian McDonnell saw it in the
hangar there (foot
of page) in November 2015.
