VH-CWB (2) Piper PA-24 Comanche 250
(c/n 24-3114)
John Wheatley's
shot of this Comanche, circa 1969 shows it with its original Piper
livery, albeit having
been
re-registered from its first Australian rego of VH-GBC.
Ian McDonell's photo below taken at
Cessnock, NSW in November 2008 shows what happens to aeroplanes which
are left out in the open
for much of their
lives. Probably a rather "sharp" paint job when first done, it
is showing rather extreme
signs of exposure
here. This, I think, was the reason for the
development of the "open T-hangar" aircraft
equivalent of the
"car port". I don't believe they are widely to be seen in
Australia, but in the U.S. they
have become
quite common over the last twenty years as an alternative to the high
cost of hangarage.
