VH-CMT (1) de Havilland D.H.82A Tiger
Moth
(c/n DHA212)
This shot of a Tiger, from the John Hopton
collection, was taken at RAAF Pearce, WA circa
1950, while the aircraft was visiting from the Royal Aero Club of WA at
Maylands. This was
previously VH-AMT (ex A17-211) with the club, but for obscure reasons
DCA decided it
conflicted with radiotelephony codes and in December 1949 it was
changed to VH-CMT.
The repaint can be seen on the
upper wing. It stayed with the club until written off in a
landing
crash at
Maylands on 22 December 1952, the resultant mess being shown in the
image below.
Oddly, DCA had no problem in cheerfully
reassigning
the "prohibited" VH-AMT rego to another
Tiger
(Superspread's VH-SSD) when it
was sold in WA in December
1959!
