VH-CGK de Havilland
D.H.82A Tiger Moth
(c/n DHA50/T307)
This image is an
enlargement from a photo of a line-up of Royal Aero Club of NSW
aircraft at
Mascot in 1948
from the Geoff Goodall collection. (By 1949 the club had moved to
Bankstown).
VH-CGK was
the former A17-53
and was
civilianized in March 1948 and owned by Sydney
gliding pioneer Dr. G.A.M.
Heydon. He owned several Tigers, all of which were loaned to the
RACNSW. On 18 April
1950 -CGK collided with RAAF Vampire A79-484 in the circuit area.
The Vampire was being flown by DeHavilland's test pilot
Brian "Black Jack" Walker, and remark-
ably
he and the two on board the Tiger all escaped serious injury. The
photo below is from the
Howard Morris collection via Geoff Goodall.
