VH-CAZ  Cessna 310C                                             (c/n  39023)

In the late 1950s and early 1960s, with the relaxation of currency restrictions, American lightplanes
began to invade the Australian general aviation scene.   DCA (probably rightfully so, too) liked to
keep up with current trends and to gain local operating experience, acquired several of these types.
Formerly N6723T this 'C' model 310 was registered to DCA on 18 December 1959 but did not
arrive in Sydney, following a trans-Pacific crossing until 1 March 1960.   Greg Banfield took the
three shots of it illustrated here.   The one above was taken at Bankstown in October 1968 with
the 310 is wearing full DCA livery.  Immediately below was earlier at Mascot in 1962 while it still
retained its basic Cessna paint scheme.    Finally the photo at the foot of the page was taken at
Maitland, NSW on 11 November 1973 just before DCA had been absorbed into the Department
of Transport on the 30th of that month.   Note blacked out DCA emblems.   VH-CAZ was with-
                                        drawn from use in 1981.
