VH-CAG (1) de Havilland D.H.82A Tiger
Moth
(c/n DHA596)
Here's
a nice shot of VH-CAG, the Department's last Tiger Moth, taken while
low flying at
Perth Airport in May 1957 during a DCA
check of an agricultural pilot (image from the Geoff
Goodall collection). Like
most of DCA's Tigers it was formerly fitted with a canopy, as seen
in the photograph below from the
Reg Adkins
collection, courtesy of the Civil Aviation Historical
Society archives. This
shot was taken after the aircraft had suffered a mishap at the old
Maylands
Airport in
Perth. The aircraft had originally been civilianized from
A17-421 in
1947 as VH-AZL.
It was re-registered VH-CAG
in 1949, and somewhere around that time received its Canadian-
style canopy, wheel brakes and a
tail wheel. The aircraft was sold in 1960 to the
Gliding Assoc-
iation of Western
Australia in Cunderdin and appropriately registered VH-TUG.
Later it became
VH-CKF.
