Short S.25V
Sandringham 4
(c/n SH.32C)
Nice Qantas shot of a Sandringham at
Rose Bay in the early 1950s. .This flying boat was a R.A.F
Sunderland
Mk V, serial NJ255. It was converted to Sandringham IV
standard by Shorts Bros
and
Harland in 1946 and transferred to the U.K. Ministry of Transport and
Civil Aviation. It was
then
leased to Tasman Empire Airlines as ZK-AMD. It then passed
to T.E.A.L. as 'RMA Australia'.
Qantas acquired it in 1950 and it was put on the Sydney - Lord Howe
Island route. It went to Ansett
Airways
Pty Ltd in 1954 to replace VH-BRD and was re-registered VH-BRE. As such it was
lost
in a
storm whilst at anchor at Lord Howe Island in July 1963.
